Very possibly. In which case (imo) they've misjudged him and his role and it's contributed to the team's weakness.

It's an interesting point you make about pace etc..
I'm not too sure whether he can step up in pace because our leagues are quite different.

What I'm more concerned with is actually ability on the ball. DM's need a good football brain, ball control and accurate passing ability. Players like Obiang, Noble etc.. just arent that good on the ball. Thats why we cant get hold of games.

I think the whole "engine" and "pace" thing is overrated. When you look at Payet for example, it wasnt his pace that made him. It was his ability to take 3 defenders out of the game with just one skillfull drag back or flick.

Its all about class for me. We dont need more bodies or average bodies. We need players with class to move us forward. We either make them ourselves or buy them in. But I dont think we will survive another campaign with out dealing with this midfield issue.

I agree with your analysis but I'm not convinced Carvalho would have been the solution. He's a very languid player who I think suits a lower pace than in this country. And the risk at the sort of prices quoted was too high. DM is not usually that expensive a role to recruit for imo, and certainly not the role we should be breaking the club's record fee on imo. Even if he was successful in the role, does it solve all our problems? Is he that much better than Obiang that the defensive frailties disappear? I doubt it.

I think Noble is a big part of the DM issue - he's a veteran now so can't play an expansive role, so actually if he plays I think he should be playing this role, but I think it seems like there's a lack of decision making or guidance to help him adapt to it. Maybe he has too much influence or rank to be told to play within his limitations.

Re: Javier Hernandez
Carvalho might have worked, but nobody knows. Same with Dendoncker.

I would go for a 433

Keeper
Zab Rice Oggy Masu
DM DM (Kouyate and Noble currently)
Lanzini
Antonio Arnie
Pea

You do a great disservice to doughnuts.

Alex would have spurned Carvallho and bought a nineteen year old Burton Albion reserve.

Re: Javier Hernandez
Hernandez
Browne Arnie
Masukua Kouyate Noble Zabaletta
Cresswell Rice Ogbonna
Hart
subs
Adrian Evra Lanzini Mario Carroll Collins Fernandes

I'd prefer to have Holland/Cullen or Pask in for Evra/Collins as we need to win even Zab on the bench .
Lets blood an in form youngster whilst he's in this kind of mood, rather than wait until he loses it.Stoke won't know much him about him.

Re: Javier Hernandez

Why do you think Carvahlo wouldn't have worked?

I feel like we have doughnut of a team with everyone being good if not special around the outside but the middle is just trash. (no disrespect to Noble who has heart).

We lack at least two solid DM type players. Its just so obvious. We find it hard to control games.

Or another expensive failure, if he'd failed to settle / adapt to a faster league.

We should try and get him in somehow or he'll be off and let's face it he score when he wants ;-)

"Call me crazy, but that's what I'd preferred we do."

I agree. I'd rather have more classy players than less.
But this has been the problem that kind of lost Bilic his job and has made it hard for Moyes.

We could have had Carvahlo and that would have sorted out everything. Under Bilic we seemed to spend so much money on right sided wingers etc.. and have neglected that CM/DM role.

I just dont get it. We haven't had a classy player in that position since Alex Song. Its the key to everything. And if I'm honest it makes far more sense to spend on a class player in that position than a striker.

For some reason, the chairmen don't agree.

"The only way to accommodate Hernandez is to have a better midfield"

Call me crazy, but that's what I'd preferred we do.

Bring up our midfielders to the quality of Hernandez, rather than weakening our attack to match our midfielders.

threesixty 1:59 Tue Apr 10
Re: Javier Hernandez
The only way to accommodate Hernandez is to have a better midfield. He just cant play that lone striker role and never has done. And our midfield is too weak to sacrifice a body.

I saw him play on the right in one game and he was actually pretty good but then you lose the poacher aspect that he's famous for.

There is a reason why no other prem clubs would pay 140k a week for him. Not because he's not a good finisher, but because he cant be played for 90 minutes in a modern PL side.

I could see Man U taking him next season as Jose is a fan but then he'll be back to being a bit part player at a big club (albeit on better money).

I've noticed that our club seems to buy "problems" and hope we can change things. Caroll, Hernandez, Payet, Morrison etc.. Every thing has its benefits but they always present these weird issues for us.

Re: Javier Hernandez
It wouldn't surprise me that, Bernie.

We sell a proven goalscorer in this league, that has helped teams win the league title, and replace him with a non-goalscoring striker who has helped his team get relegated.

Bernie 12:31 Tue Apr 10

If Moysie stays I'd imagine it'll be Hernandez out and Rondon in

The Libertine 11:35 Tue Apr 10
Re: Javier Hernandez
Happy to keep Hernandez and shift Moyes out. It would be ideal that way, but... Not likely to happen.

Its worth mentioning that while Chicharito has played, then out of 8 goals, two assist has come from Antonio and two from Arnie. Remaining assists are from Mario, Cress, Fonte and Sakho.

It would suggest that if you play Antonio and Arnie around Pea, then we would score goals.

I guess it will mean that you build a team from the front instead of from the back as it is usually done.

grasshopper 10:44 Tue Apr 10
Re: Javier Hernandez
I would rather keep Hernandez then Moyes.

At the end of the day, I can only see one outcome - bye bye little Pea.

Private Dancer 9:29 Tue Apr 10
Re: Javier Hernandez
Not convinced. It's easy and sounds logical to say ' if we have a goalscorer then he has to play' but the fact is the game has moved on and a front man now needs to have more attributes. It's fine if he scores which is why this tread has appeared, but if he doesn't then you are left asking what his contribution is?

Don't see much of a future for him here, which is a pity. As said, you can't sniff at having a genuine goalscorer in your ranks.
